Wyo. Stat. Ann. §§ 40-26-101 to 40-26-145 § 40-26-134
Licensed or regulated business.
Operative Text
40-26-134. Licensed or regulated business. If the enforcing authority issues an order with respect to a discriminatory housing practice that occurs in the course of a business subject to a licensing or regulation by a governmental agency, the enforcing authority, not later than the thirtieth day after the date the order is issued, shall send copies of the findings and the order to the governmental agency and recommend to the governmental agency appropriate disciplinary action.
Under Wyoming's fair housing law, Wyo. Stat. § 40-26-134, when an enforcing authority issues an order finding that a discriminatory housing practice took place within a licensed or government-regulated business, it must notify the relevant licensing or regulatory agency within 30 days. Along with that notification, the enforcing authority is required to recommend appropriate disciplinary action to the licensing agency. This provision creates a coordination mechanism between fair housing enforcement and occupational or business licensing oversight.

Property owners and managers who hold professional licenses or operate under government regulation should be aware that Wyo. Stat. § 40-26-134 extends the consequences of a fair housing violation beyond the immediate enforcement order. A compliant operator generally maintains non-discriminatory practices across all aspects of their business to avoid triggering the referral process, which can put their license or regulatory standing at risk. Understanding that a fair housing order can be forwarded to a separate licensing body within 30 days underscores the importance of consistent, lawful conduct.

Wyo. Stat. § 40-26-134 provides tenants with an additional layer of accountability when a discriminatory housing practice is committed by a business that holds a government license or operates under regulatory oversight. If an enforcing authority issues an order in your favor, that order and its findings may be sent to the relevant licensing agency, which could pursue its own disciplinary proceedings. Tenants who believe they have experienced housing discrimination may explore filing a complaint with the enforcing authority, or consult a tenant-rights organization to understand the full range of available enforcement paths.
