West Virginia Code § 16B-18-9 establishes the West Virginia Human Rights Commission as the body responsible for administering the state's Fair Housing Act. Under § 16B-18-9, the West Virginia Human Rights Commission holds the authority to investigate, conciliate, and adjudicate fair housing complaints, including those involving rental housing operators. Compliant property owners and managers generally maintain clear, consistent, and non-discriminatory policies across all aspects of their housing operations, recognizing that state executive agencies with regulatory oversight of financial institutions are also directed to further fair housing purposes under this section. Staying informed about Commission-published reports and recommendations can help operators understand statewide enforcement trends and areas of ongoing scrutiny.
