Okla. Stat. tit. 25, §§ 1451–1453, 1501–1508 § 1507
Inspection - Records
Operative Text
A. In connection with an investigation of a complaint filed under Section 1101 et seq. of this title, the Attorney General shall have access at any reasonable time to premises, records and documents relevant to the complaint and the right to examine, photograph and copy evidence, in accordance with the Oklahoma Administrative Procedures Act. B. So as to avoid undue burden on persons subject to the act, records and reports required by the Attorney General under this section shall conform as near as may be to similar records and reports required by federal law. C. It is unlawful for an officer or employee of the Attorney General to make public with respect to a particular person without his consent information obtained by the Attorney General pursuant to his or her authority under this section.
Oklahoma's fair housing law, at 25 O.S. § 1507, grants the Attorney General the authority to access premises, records, and documents at reasonable times when investigating a filed complaint, and to examine, photograph, and copy relevant evidence under the Oklahoma Administrative Procedures Act. Any records or reports the Attorney General requires must be aligned as closely as possible with existing federal reporting requirements to minimize burden on those being investigated. Separately, the law prohibits Attorney General staff from publicly disclosing information gathered under this section about any specific individual without that person's consent.

Under 25 O.S. § 1507, property owners and managers who become subject to a fair housing complaint investigation can expect that the Attorney General may request access to relevant premises and records at reasonable times. Operators who maintain organized records that already conform to federal fair housing documentation standards are generally better positioned to respond to such requests without undue disruption, since the statute explicitly requires the Attorney General to align record demands with federal norms. Information gathered during the investigation is legally restricted from public disclosure by Attorney General staff without the subject's consent, which provides a degree of confidentiality protection during the process.

Under 25 O.S. § 1507, when a fair housing complaint is filed, the Attorney General has investigative tools available — including the ability to access premises, review records, and copy evidence — to support the investigation of that complaint. Tenants who have filed a complaint under Oklahoma's fair housing statutes may find it useful to understand that this provision gives investigators meaningful access to gather evidence relevant to their claims. Those seeking to understand their rights or the complaint process more fully may consider reaching out to a tenant-rights organization or legal aid office familiar with Oklahoma fair housing law.
