The owner of a hotel shall post, in a prominent place in each dwelling unit, a notice that states: (1) The location of the nearest exits and fire alarms; (2) The procedures to be followed when a smoke or fire alarm sounds; (3) The procedures to be followed in the event of fire or smoke. b. Under N.J.S.A. 55:13A-1 et seq. § 55:13A-7.7, hotel owners in New Jersey are required to post a notice in a prominent place within each dwelling unit covering three specific topics: the location of the nearest exits and fire alarms, the steps to take when a smoke or fire alarm sounds, and the procedures to follow if fire or smoke is detected. The New Jersey Commissioner of the Department of Community Affairs is authorized to adopt regulations to carry out this requirement. This rule is designed to ensure that occupants have immediate access to life-safety information during an emergency.

Hotel owners and operators subject to N.J.S.A. 55:13A-1 et seq. § 55:13A-7.7 generally ensure that each dwelling unit contains a clearly visible posted notice addressing exit locations, fire alarm locations, alarm-response procedures, and fire or smoke emergency procedures. Compliant operators also monitor any administrative regulations issued by the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs under this provision, as those rules may specify formatting, placement, or content standards. Keeping notices current and legible in every unit is a routine part of maintaining compliance with this statute.

N.J.S.A. 55:13A-1 et seq. § 55:13A-7.7 establishes that hotel guests and occupants have a right to find a prominently posted notice in their dwelling unit detailing exit routes, fire alarm locations, and emergency procedures for fire or smoke situations. If such a notice is absent or inadequate, occupants may report the concern to the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs, which oversees hotel regulations under this statute. Tenant-rights organizations or legal aid services can help occupants understand what options may be available when a hotel appears to be out of compliance.
