Neb. Rev. Stat. § 20-301 et seq. § 20-328
Final investigative report; contents; amendment.
Operative Text
(1) At the end of each investigation of a complaint, the commission shall prepare a final investigative report containing: (a) The names and dates of contacts with witnesses; (b) A summary and the dates of correspondence and other contacts with the aggrieved person and the respondent; (c) A summary description of other pertinent records; (d) A summary of witness statements; and (e) Answers to interrogatories. (2) A final investigative report may be amended if additional evidence is later discovered.
Under Neb. Rev. Stat. § 20-301 et seq. § 20-328, when the Nebraska Equal Opportunity Commission concludes an investigation into a housing discrimination complaint, it is required to compile a formal final investigative report. That report must document witness contacts, correspondence timelines, relevant records, witness statements, and interrogatory responses. The provision also allows the report to be updated if new evidence surfaces after the initial report is completed.

Property owners and managers who are named as respondents in a fair-housing complaint should be aware that Neb. Rev. Stat. § 20-301 et seq. § 20-328 governs how the commission documents its investigation. A compliant operator generally cooperates with investigative contacts, responds to correspondence, and provides accurate answers to any interrogatories, since all of these become part of the official record. Because the final report can be amended if new evidence emerges, operators typically maintain thorough records throughout the process.

Neb. Rev. Stat. § 20-301 et seq. § 20-328 gives tenants who have filed a housing discrimination complaint the assurance that the commission must create a structured written record of its investigation, including contacts, correspondence, witness statements, and interrogatory answers. This documented record can be significant if a complaint proceeds to further review or a hearing. Tenants who believe the report is incomplete may find it relevant that the law allows amendments when additional evidence is discovered, and consulting a tenant-rights organization can help in understanding how to engage with that process.
