Mont. Admin. R. 37.111.1220 establishes fire safety and hazardous-substance standards for regulated facilities in Montana. The rule requires that premises remain clear of litter and flammable debris, that chemicals and hazardous materials be used only as their labels direct, and that such substances be stored in their original labeled containers within a secure, restricted area. Flammable materials must additionally be kept in a well-ventilated structure that is physically separate from spaces where campers and employees are present.
Plain English — not legal advice.
Operators subject to Mont. Admin. R. 37.111.1220 generally maintain routine housekeeping schedules to prevent accumulation of litter, rubbish, and flammable debris across the facility. Compliant operators store chemicals and hazardous substances in their original, labeled, covered containers within a locked or otherwise restricted area that only authorized staff can access, and they follow manufacturer label directions for both use and storage. Flammable materials are kept in a dedicated, well-ventilated structure that is physically separated from camper and employee occupied areas, and staff are trained to handle these materials in accordance with the rule's requirements.

Campers and employees at facilities covered by Mont. Admin. R. 37.111.1220 have an interest in knowing that the rule requires the premises to be kept free of flammable debris and that hazardous substances must be stored safely away from occupied areas. If conditions at a facility appear to violate these fire-safety or hazardous-substance storage standards, individuals may consider documenting the conditions and reporting concerns to the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services, which oversees these administrative rules. Tenant-rights organizations or legal aid resources can help individuals understand what options may be available when a facility appears out of compliance with § 37.111.1220.
