Mont. Admin. R. 37.111.335 establishes sanitation standards for laundry operations at bed and breakfast establishments in Montana. It requires specific equipment, water temperatures, and chemical treatments for washing linens, towels, and washcloths, and prohibits manual washing or line drying of those items. The rule also mandates hand hygiene and physical separation between soiled and clean laundry to prevent cross-contamination.
Plain English — not legal advice.
Operators of bed and breakfast establishments subject to Mont. Admin. R. 37.111.335 generally maintain a mechanical washer and EPA-approved sanitizers, ensure their hot water system reaches 120°F during laundry cycles, and process bedding, towels, and washcloths at the temperatures and durations the rule specifies. Compliant operators do not hand-wash or line-dry bed linens, towels, or washcloths, and they keep soiled and clean laundry physically separated throughout sorting, handling, and storage. A hand-washing sink within reasonable proximity of the laundry area, used between handling soiled and clean items, is also part of standard compliance under this provision.
