Appeals may be had from any ruling of a district court in accordance with the Code of Civil Procedure, except that such appeals shall be given preference and heard in priority to other appeals.

La. R.S. § 51:1405 gives Louisiana tenants a basis to raise concerns when a landlord's conduct may constitute an unfair or deceptive practice in the rental market. Tenants who believe they have experienced such conduct can explore filing a complaint with the Louisiana Attorney General's Consumer Protection Section, which has rulemaking and enforcement authority under this provision. Consulting a tenant-rights organization or legal aid office can help tenants understand whether a particular practice may fall within the scope of this law.
