Under 910 IAC 2 § 910-2-9-1, Indiana law requires that any person or business covered by IC 22-9.5 display a standardized fair housing poster at every place of business where housing-related activities occur. The poster must meet specific size requirements (11 by 14 inches) and must be positioned prominently enough that anyone seeking housing or real estate services can readily see it. The poster communicates that discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, handicap, familial status, or national origin is illegal in housing sales, rentals, advertising, financing, appraisals, and brokerage services.

Property owners and managers covered by IC 22-9.5 are generally expected, under 910 IAC 2 § 910-2-9-1, to obtain the correctly sized (11" × 14") fair housing poster and display it conspicuously in every office or location where leasing, sales, or related real estate transactions take place. Compliant operators ensure the poster remains continuously maintained and visible to anyone who walks in seeking housing accommodations or brokerage services. Keeping records of poster placement and periodically verifying that displays remain intact and legible are practices commonly associated with ongoing compliance.

Under 910 IAC 2 § 910-2-9-1, tenants and housing seekers have a right to see a fair housing poster prominently displayed wherever covered housing transactions occur, signaling that discrimination on protected grounds is prohibited. If a poster is absent or if you believe you have experienced housing discrimination, the provision itself directs complaints to the Indiana Civil Rights Commission at Indiana Government Center-North, 100 North Senate Avenue, Room 103, Indianapolis, Indiana 46204. Tenant-rights organizations and fair housing advocacy groups can also help individuals understand available options when they believe this or related fair housing requirements have not been followed.
