14 DCMR § 14-4299
DEFINITIONS
Operative Text
4299.1 The provisions of § 3899 of Chapter 38 of this title and the definitions set forth in that chapter shall be applicable to this chapter. 4299.2 The provisions of § 3816 of Chapter 38 of this title shall be applicable to the calculation of any time periods provided by this chapter.
D.C. Mun. Regs. tit. 14 § 14-4299 is a definitional cross-reference provision that ties the rules in this chapter to the definitions and general provisions already established in Chapter 38 of the same title. Rather than restating those definitions, this section incorporates them by reference, meaning terms used throughout this chapter carry the same meanings as defined in Chapter 38. Additionally, the time-calculation rules found in § 3816 of Chapter 38 govern how any deadlines or time periods in this chapter are measured.

Under D.C. Mun. Regs. tit. 14 § 14-4299, tenants should know that the definitions shaping their rights and obligations in this chapter are drawn from Chapter 38, specifically § 3899. This means that understanding the full scope of any term used in this chapter may require consulting that cross-referenced chapter as well. Tenants who believe a term is being misapplied or that a deadline was miscalculated under § 3816 may wish to consult a tenant-rights organization or legal aid provider familiar with D.C. housing regulations.
