D.C. Code tit. 42 § 42-3607
Mayor’s authority and responsibility.
Operative Text
(a) The Mayor shall establish within the Metropolitan Police Department a division to provide assistance to, supervision of, or protection to a plaintiff who has obtained an eviction order or other relief pursuant to this subchapter. (b) The Mayor shall report to the Council on an annual basis on the effectiveness of this subchapter.
Under D.C. Code § 42-3601 et seq. § 42-3607, the Mayor of the District of Columbia is required to create a dedicated division within the Metropolitan Police Department to support, supervise, or protect individuals who have obtained an eviction order or other court relief under this subchapter. The Mayor is also obligated to report annually to the D.C. Council on how effectively the subchapter is working. These dual mandates establish both an operational enforcement mechanism and an ongoing accountability structure for the law.

D.C. Code § 42-3601 et seq. § 42-3607 establishes that landlords or other plaintiffs who have secured an eviction order or related relief under this subchapter can look to a designated Metropolitan Police Department division for assistance or protection during enforcement of that order. Compliant operators generally document their court-ordered relief and coordinate with the appropriate MPD division when carrying out an eviction. Awareness of this provision helps property managers understand the governmental support structure available once a valid court order has been obtained.

D.C. Code § 42-3601 et seq. § 42-3607 creates a Metropolitan Police Department division specifically tasked with overseeing the enforcement of eviction orders issued under this subchapter, and it requires the Mayor to report annually to the D.C. Council on the subchapter's effectiveness. Tenants facing eviction proceedings may find it useful to know that this annual reporting requirement creates a public record of how the law is being applied. Those with concerns about how an eviction order is being enforced can consult a tenant-rights organization or legal aid provider familiar with D.C. housing law for information about available options.
