Ariz. Rev. Stat. § 41-1491.28
Investigative reports
Operative Text
A. The attorney general shall prepare a final investigative report showing: 1. The names and dates of contacts with witnesses. 2. A summary of correspondence and other contacts with the aggrieved person and the respondent showing the dates of the correspondence and contacts. 3. A summary description of other pertinent records. 4. A summary of witness statements. 5. Answers to interrogatories. B. A final report under this section may be amended if additional evidence is discovered.
Under A.R.S. § 41-1491 et seq. § 41-1491.28, Arizona's Attorney General is required to compile a formal investigative report when handling fair housing complaints. This report must document witness contacts, correspondence with both the aggrieved person and the respondent, relevant records, witness statements, and any interrogatory answers. The report is not static — it can be updated if new evidence surfaces after the initial version is completed.

Property owners and managers who become respondents in a fair housing investigation governed by A.R.S. § 41-1491 et seq. § 41-1491.28 should be aware that their correspondence and contacts with the Attorney General's office will be summarized and included in the official investigative record. Compliant operators generally respond to interrogatories and other information requests thoroughly and in a timely manner, knowing that those responses become part of the formal report. Because the report can be amended when new evidence emerges, the record may continue to develop even after an initial report is issued.

A.R.S. § 41-1491 et seq. § 41-1491.28 gives aggrieved persons the assurance that the Attorney General's investigative process is documented in a structured, formal report that captures contacts, correspondence, witness statements, and other pertinent evidence. Tenants who have filed a fair housing complaint can understand that their communications with the Attorney General's office are part of this official record. If new evidence comes to light, the report may be amended, so tenant-rights organizations or legal aid resources can help individuals understand how the investigative process may unfold.
