The prohibition extends to anyone who knowingly helps another person commit such fraud. A conviction can result in a fine between $300 and $500, up to 60 days of hard labor, or both, at the court's discretion.
Plain English — not legal advice.
Housing authorities and operators of publicly assisted housing covered under §§ 24-1-6, 24-1-10, and 24-1-109 are generally expected to print the statutory fraud notice directly on application forms and display it visibly in the office where applications are accepted. Compliant operators maintain clear intake procedures that allow applicants to understand the consequences of submitting false or incomplete information. Keeping documentation of these notice practices supports a demonstrable record of compliance with the provision's requirements.

Under §§ 24-1-6, 24-1-10, and 24-1-109, applicants for public housing or rent subsidies have the right to know about fraud prohibitions before they apply — the law requires that notice be printed on the application form and posted in the application office. Tenants who believe they were denied housing or a subsidy based on an allegation of fraud, or who have questions about what information must be disclosed, may wish to consult a tenant-rights organization or legal aid provider familiar with Alabama housing law. Understanding what the provision covers — including the range of conduct it defines as fraudulent — can help applicants ensure their submissions are accurate and complete.
