Plain English

Yonkers, N.Y., Code of Ordinances ch. 58 § 58-26 establishes a fee structure for boiler operating permits in the city. Building owners must pay $250 per boiler annually, though the total fee for any single building is capped at $1,000 per year. Fees not paid by June 15 of the applicable year trigger a late charge equal to twice the original fee amount, and a one-time $25-per-boiler credit was available for qualifying 2019 renewal applications submitted on time.

For Property Managers

Under ch. 58 § 58-26, compliant building operators in Yonkers pay the required boiler permit fee—$250 per boiler, up to a $1,000 annual cap per building—before the June 15 deadline each year to avoid the late charge, which doubles the fee owed. Operators generally ensure that all required information is submitted with renewal applications, since incomplete applications may be rejected outright. Keeping records of prior-year renewal submissions and payment receipts helps demonstrate timely compliance with the fee schedule.

For Tenants

Yonkers ch. 58 § 58-26 requires building owners to maintain valid, paid-up boiler operating permits, which is part of the broader framework ensuring that heating equipment in residential buildings is properly overseen. Tenants who have concerns about whether a landlord is meeting permit and boiler-inspection obligations may contact the City of Yonkers directly to inquire about permit status for their building. Tenant-rights organizations familiar with Yonkers housing regulations can help residents understand what options are generally available when building systems may not be properly permitted.
