Syracuse Rev. Gen. Ord. ch. 27, art. 13 § 27-191 establishes a tiered penalty structure for property-related violations issued by the bureau. Fines vary by violation category — general property maintenance, blighting influence, periodic inspection failures, and zoning non-compliance — and escalate with each subsequent ticket. Penalties also double if a ticket goes into default rather than being resolved at the initial stage.
Plain English — not legal advice.
Under Syracuse Rev. Gen. Ord. ch. 27, art. 13 § 27-191, compliant property operators typically address any notice of violation promptly to avoid the higher default penalty amounts, which can be double the initial fine. Operators generally track their violation history across all four categories, since repeat tickets carry progressively steeper initial penalties — reaching as high as $1,200 on default for third-and-subsequent general maintenance tickets or $1,200 on default for second zoning violations. Maintaining records of inspections, maintenance activity, and zoning compliance helps demonstrate responsiveness to the bureau's requirements under this article.
