For Property Managers

Under § 210-11, a rental certificate can be revoked if a property falls out of compliance with the chapter's maintenance standards or certificate conditions, so operators generally keep properties in continuous compliance with all applicable codes and promptly address any deficiencies identified during inspections. If the Building Inspector initiates revocation proceedings, the owner is entitled to notice and a hearing before a final decision is made. Compliant operators typically respond to any notice of potential revocation by engaging with the process and documenting corrective actions taken.

For Tenants

Section 210-11 establishes that a landlord's rental certificate can be revoked by the Building Inspector when a property is not maintained in accordance with required standards, which may be relevant to tenants living in substandard conditions. Tenants who believe their building is out of compliance can report concerns to the Schenectady Building Inspector's office, which has the authority to investigate and initiate revocation proceedings.
