Plain English — not legal advice.
Under ch. 108 § 108-8, operators of residential properties in Rye are generally expected to maintain their buildings in compliance with the chapter's occupancy, size, light, and ventilation standards at all times. Compliant operators typically conduct regular inspections to confirm that habitable spaces meet these baseline requirements and that any accessory uses on the property are classified and treated consistently with how they would be applied to any other residential building. Keeping documentation of compliance with these general requirements can support a property owner's position if questions arise during a municipal inspection.
