Under New Rochelle, N.Y., Code of Ordinances ch. 261 § 261-6, a student housing business that submits false registration information or violates any requirement of Chapter 261 may have its registration revoked by the City. Before revocation can occur, the City must first notify the business of the problem and give it 10 days to correct the false information or violation. If the business does not cure the issue within that window, the City may proceed with revocation and must formally notify the business of that action. Additional financial penalties are governed by Chapter 133, Fees.
Plain English — not legal advice.
Operators of student housing businesses registered under ch. 261 § 261-6 generally maintain accurate, up-to-date registration information and promptly address any compliance issues flagged by the City. When the City issues a notice of a false statement or violation, a compliant operator typically acts within the 10-day correction window to resolve the identified problem and document that resolution. Staying current with all Chapter 261 requirements helps avoid the more serious consequence of registration revocation, as well as any financial penalties outlined in Chapter 133, Fees.

Section 261-6 of New Rochelle's Code of Ordinances provides a mechanism for the City to revoke the registration of a student housing business that submits false information or fails to comply with Chapter 261's requirements. Tenants who believe their housing provider has submitted false registration details or is operating in violation of Chapter 261 may bring that concern to the City, which has authority to investigate and initiate the notice-and-revocation process. Tenant-rights organizations familiar with New Rochelle's student housing rules can help residents understand what options may be available when a landlord's registration is at risk or has been revoked.
