Under § 215-8, property owners in Jamestown should be aware that how their building is classified—either as a one- or two-family dwelling or as a multiple dwelling—determines which regulatory requirements apply to it under Part 1 of Chapter 215. Operators of buildings with more than two units will generally need to look to the definition in § 215-6 to understand their classification and the obligations that flow from it. Keeping accurate records of the number of dwelling units in a building helps ensure the correct classification is applied.

Section 215-8 sets out the occupancy classification framework that determines which housing rules apply to the building where a tenant lives in Jamestown. Tenants in buildings with more than two units may have protections tied to the multiple-dwelling classification defined in § 215-6. Those who believe their building has been misclassified or that the wrong standards are being applied can contact the City of Jamestown's code enforcement office or consult a local tenant-rights organization for general guidance.
