Plain English

Glen Cove Code ch. 168 § 168-43 establishes standards for the maintenance of open areas on private property. It requires that drainage, fencing, paved surfaces, yards, and ground cover all be kept in safe and functional condition, and that hazardous plant growth be removed. The provision also restricts open fires to those authorized under local law and state air pollution rules, and limits the storage of containers on private property to no more than 30 days in any twelve-month period unless a valid building permit is active on the site.

For Property Managers

Property owners and managers subject to Glen Cove Code ch. 168 § 168-43 generally maintain drainage systems to prevent water ponding, keep fences and walls structurally sound, and ensure that paved areas such as driveways and walkways remain safe for use. Compliant operators routinely clear yards of hazards, manage ground cover to control erosion, and remove noxious or overgrown vegetation. They also track container storage on-site to ensure it does not exceed the 30-day limit within a twelve-month period unless a valid building permit is on file, and they confirm that any open fires are expressly authorized under applicable local and state regulations.
