For Property Managers

Property owners and managers subject to Glen Cove, N.Y., Code of Ordinances ch. 168 § 168-41 generally maintain a documented routine inspection and maintenance program for all elevators, dumbwaiters, and escalators on the premises. Compliant operators ensure that capacity signs—stating rated load in pounds and, for passenger elevators, the maximum number of riders—are durable, legible, and posted conspicuously inside each car. They also keep hoistways, pits, and machine rooms clear of debris, oily materials, and flammable liquids, and confirm that emergency signaling and all safety devices remain fully operational except during authorized tests or repairs.
