Plain English

Section 475-47 of Fulton, N.Y., Code of Ordinances ch. 475 establishes requirements for locking devices at building entrances and exits across different residential dwelling types. One- and two-family homes must have a suitable locking device on each means of egress, while multiple dwellings with individual unit bells must secure the main entrance without blocking free escape from inside. For Property Managers

Operators of residential properties in Fulton, N.Y. subject to ch. 475 § 475-47 generally ensure that every required entrance and egress point is fitted with appropriate locking hardware suited to the building type. For multiple dwellings, compliant operators verify that main entrance locks never impede occupants' ability to exit freely from the interior, and that any double-door configuration uses properly installed flush bolts with a metal strike plate on the inactive leaf. Operators also confirm that no door leaf is rendered inactive when full doorway capacity is needed as an exit under the Uniform Code.
