For Property Managers

Under Elmira Code ch. 8, art. V § 8-329, property owners and managers who undertake corrective work on residential premises are expected to ensure that all installations, alterations, repairs, materials, and equipment meet the New York State Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code and generally accepted standards. Compliant operators typically document that contractors and materials used in violation-correction work conform to these benchmarks. Keeping records of permits, inspections, and material specifications helps demonstrate that corrective work satisfied the safety standard set by this provision.

For Tenants

Elmira Code ch. 8, art. V § 8-329 gives tenants a basis to expect that any repair or corrective work performed on their residential premises meets state building and fire safety standards. If work done to address a violation appears substandard or unsafe, tenants may raise the issue with local code enforcement authorities in Elmira or consult a tenant-rights organization familiar with New York housing law. Understanding that state code compliance is the legal benchmark under this provision can help tenants evaluate whether corrective work has been properly completed.
