Cohoes, N.Y., Code of Ordinances ch. 215 § 215-19 establishes interior maintenance standards for residential structures. Chimneys and flues must remain structurally sound and gas-tight; ceilings and walls must be kept free of loose or defective sections that could endanger occupants; and bathroom and toilet room floors must be maintained to prevent water leakage and the structural damage that can follow. The rule defines acceptable maintenance methods for each of these conditions, ranging from clearing flue blockages and sealing joints to repairing or replacing deteriorated flooring materials.

Under Cohoes, N.Y., Code of Ordinances ch. 215 § 215-19, compliant property operators routinely inspect chimneys, flues, interior wall and ceiling surfaces, and bathroom floors for signs of deterioration. When defects are found—such as open flue joints, loose ceiling sections, or compromised bathroom flooring—operators generally address them promptly using the repair methods the provision describes, including masonry repair, section replacement, and waterproofing restoration. Keeping maintenance records that document inspections and completed repairs is a common practice among operators seeking to demonstrate ongoing compliance with this interior protection standard.
