For Property Managers

Under Albany, N.Y., Code of Ordinances ch. 231 § 231-36, compliant property operators routinely inspect interior stairs for worn, broken, warped, or loose treads and risers and arrange timely repairs. They ensure that stairs are securely fastened to structural members and that all open portions of stairs, balconies, landings, and stairwells are fitted with properly balustraded railings capable of bearing normally imposed loads. Operators of multiple dwellings also cross-reference the New York Multiple Residence Law, which may impose additional stairway and railing standards.
