Under Albany, N.Y., Code of Ordinances ch. 231 § 231-103, the Department of Buildings and Regulatory Compliance is the agency that oversees housing code compliance, meaning inspectors and representatives from that Department are the officials a property owner or manager would interact with during inspections or enforcement actions. Operators who maintain properties in compliance with the code generally direct any official correspondence or permit matters to the Department and its Commissioner. Knowing which agency holds authority helps property managers respond appropriately to notices, inspection requests, and compliance orders.
