Lincoln Municipal Code ch. 21.05 § 21.05.400 establishes standards for toilet rooms and bathrooms in residential and other occupancies. Under Section 503, these spaces must offer privacy, include a lockable door when shared among multiple occupants in a multi-unit dwelling, and cannot serve as the sole route to other areas of a building. For hotel, rooming, dormitory, and housekeeping units, bathroom access must be reachable within one flight of stairs from a common hall, and in non-dwelling settings, bathroom floors must be smooth, hard, and nonabsorbent for easy sanitation.

Property owners and managers operating under Lincoln, Neb., Mun. Code ch. 21.05 § 21.05.400 generally ensure that every shared or common bathroom in a multiple dwelling is equipped with a door and a functioning interior locking mechanism. Compliant operators also verify that bathroom layouts do not force occupants to pass through a toilet room to reach other parts of the building. For hotel, rooming, or dormitory units, operators typically confirm that bathroom facilities are accessible from a common hallway and within one flight of stairs, and that non-dwelling bathroom floors are maintained with smooth, nonabsorbent surfaces.
