For Property Managers

Property owners and managers subject to Bellevue, Neb., Code of Ordinances ch. 15, art. IV § 15-91 generally ensure that any well used for domestic water supply on their property has been tested, inspected, and issued a permit by the Permits and Inspections Department before it is put into use. Compliant operators also respond promptly to any official notice from the Permits and Inspections Department directing them to abandon, close, or fill a well, ceasing use of that well upon receipt of such notice. Keeping documentation of permits and inspection records on file is a common practice for demonstrating compliance.

For Tenants

Under Bellevue, Neb., Code of Ordinances ch. 15, art. IV § 15-91, tenants have an interest in knowing whether any well supplying domestic water at their residence has been properly tested, inspected, and permitted by the Permits and Inspections Department. If a tenant has reason to believe a well is being used without the required permit, or that a well is still in use after an official closure notice has been issued, they may consider contacting the Permits and Inspections Department to inquire about the well's status. Tenant-rights organizations and legal aid services can help explain what options may be available when a housing unit's water supply does not appear to meet local regulatory requirements.
