Owner identification posting
Operative Text
A. Owner or Operator shall post a weather proof sign with his or her name and active phone number in the Multi-Unit Building's Common Exterior or Common Interior next to the front door and accessible to the public, no smaller than eight (8) inches by ten (10) inches. Under Skokie Ch. 22 Art. XIV § 22-512, multi-unit residential buildings must display a weatherproof sign near the front door — in a common exterior or interior area accessible to the public — showing the owner's or operator's name and an active phone number. The sign must be at least 8 inches by 10 inches. Buildings that are owner-occupied and contain four or fewer rental units are not required to post this sign.
Plain English — not legal advice.
Operators of qualifying multi-unit buildings in Skokie must comply with § 22-512 by posting a durable, weatherproof sign of at least 8" × 10" near the front door in a publicly accessible common area. The sign must display the owner's or operator's name and a current, working phone number. Owners who live in their building and rent out four or fewer units are exempt from this requirement, but all others should ensure the sign remains visible, legible, and up to date.

Section § 22-512 of Skokie's rental registration rules gives tenants and the public a right to see clearly posted contact information for the building's owner or operator near the front entrance. If a qualifying building lacks this sign or displays outdated information, that may represent a code violation tenants can report to the appropriate Skokie municipal authority. Tenant-rights organizations can help residents understand what steps are generally available when a landlord is not meeting posting obligations under Ch. 22 Art. XIV.
