Under Mundelein Ch. 16.44 § 16.44.130, the building department is required to maintain a permanent written record of all business and activities covered by Chapter 16.44, including every final decision on permits, certificates, and similar matters issued by the building commissioner. These records must be kept in writing and officially logged. Consistent with the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, all such records are open to public inspection.
Plain English — not legal advice.
Property owners and managers operating under Mundelein Ch. 16.44 § 16.44.130 can generally expect that any permit or certificate decision affecting their rental property is documented in the building department's permanent records. Compliant operators typically retain copies of written decisions they receive, knowing those decisions are also officially recorded. Because these records are publicly accessible under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, landlords can request copies of relevant departmental records when needed.
