For Property Managers

Under § 27.5 of Clarendon Hills Ch. 27, property owners and managers should be aware that residents or other affected parties have a defined window to bring formal complaints about real estate practices to the Village Clerk. Operators who maintain clear, documented records of their rental and sales practices are generally better positioned to respond to any complaint referred to the Human Relations Board. Familiarity with what constitutes an unfair real estate practice under this Chapter helps property managers ensure their day-to-day operations remain consistent with local fair housing standards.

For Tenants

Section 27.5 of Clarendon Hills Ch. 27 gives anyone harmed by an unfair real estate practice the right to file a written complaint with the Village Clerk, who is required to refer it to the Human Relations Board. The 30-day filing window runs from the date of the alleged violation or from the date you first learned of it, so keeping notes on dates and circumstances can be important. Tenant-rights organizations familiar with Clarendon Hills fair housing rules can help individuals understand what information to include in a complaint and what options may be available through the Human Relations Board process.
