Buffalo Grove's Ch. 15.36 Residential Rental Housing Program § 15.36.050 establishes the information and procedural requirements for obtaining and maintaining a rental property license in the village. Applicants must submit detailed ownership, contact, and property information to the Code Official, including a 24-hour emergency contact with repair authority. Licenses run on a calendar-year basis, fees are due at submission, and late fees escalate if payment is not made by February 1. Any structural, mechanical, electrical, or plumbing work on licensed units requires all applicable permits and inspections before proceeding.
Plain English — not legal advice.
Under § 15.36.050, compliant rental property operators in Buffalo Grove file a complete written application with the Code Official that includes full owner information, property details, a local agent or management company contact if applicable, and a 24-hour emergency contact authorized to make repairs. When ownership or the property agent changes, operators submit an updated written notice to the Code Official within 30 days of that change. License fees are paid at the time of application or renewal, and operators track the January 1 due date carefully to avoid the escalating late fees described in § 15.36.050(E). Before undertaking any structural, mechanical, electrical, or plumbing work, compliant operators confirm that all zoning and building code requirements are met and that required permits and inspections are in order.

Section § 15.36.050 of Buffalo Grove's Residential Rental Housing Program requires that rental properties be licensed and that landlords maintain current, accurate contact information on file with the Code Official, including a 24-hour emergency contact who can authorize repairs. Tenants can be aware that this provision also requires landlords to keep a record of tenant names on file and make it available to the Code Official upon request under § 15.36.100(A). If a rental property appears to be operating without a valid license or if emergency contact obligations seem unmet, tenants may contact the Buffalo Grove Code Official's office to inquire about compliance. Tenant-rights organizations can help explain what remedies or complaint processes may be available under the broader licensing program.
